Who We Are

The RI Long Term Care Ombudsman

(located within the Alliance For Better Long Term Care)

Mission and Philosophy

Our Mission here at the Office of the RI Long Term Care Ombudsman  is to improve the quality of life and health care of residents of long term care facilities, assisted living facilities, and those who receive licensed health care or hospice in the home.

The Office of the Long Term Care State Ombudsman believes that all senior citizens and people with disabilities who receive long term care services should be provided with the highest level of care, prevention from abuse, neglect, and mistreatment as well as a quality of life which meets their special individual needs.

As the Rhode Island Ombudsman for Long Term Care, our staff and volunteers advocate for those who have been victims of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.

What We Do

During regular facility visits the RI Long Term Care Ombudsman Volunteers provide:

Mediation and Problem Solving  . . . to assist long term care residents and consumers, family members and staff; to resolve conflicts and issues.

Advocacy . . . to educate long term care residents and consumers of their rights; to make decisions on their own behalf, and to live with dignity and respect in an environment which supports the highest possible quality of life.

Follow-up . . . to verify that the identified problems have been promptly and effectively addressed by the facility or health care agency.
