Rhode Island Students of the Future is a 501-c-3 non profit organization that engages students in science, technology, engineering, math and computer science through youth robotics. Over 700 5-18 year olds participate on Jr. FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League or Robot Block Party teams where they design, build, and code robots while learning valuable workforce skills like communication, collaboration and project management.
We manage the FIRST LEGO League (9-14 year olds) and FIRST LEGO League Jr. (6-9 year olds) in Rhode Island. FLL and FLL JR offer a 10-12 week season of building and coding robots to score points on a game field, while concurrently developing a project related to the annual theme. Over 600 students participate in these programs in public, private, parochial and home schools, community organizations and informal learning centers.
RISF also manages the Robot Block Party, a community outreach event held in conjunction with the Humanity Centered Robotics Initiative at Brown University. The Robot Block Party is a celebration of National Robotics Week and showcases the ways robots are used in manufacturing, health care, research, education and play throughout Rhode Island. Named a "BEST OF RI" event by RI MONTHLY, the Robot Block Party is held each April and brings over 2500 spectators to visit more than 40 exhibitors.
Finally, we offer professional development courses in LEGO Robotics for formal and informal educators.
